This strikes me as ironic, considering that you are attempting to hold Ubuntu to a standard which has not been met by many prominent Debian derivatives over the years. I don't know whether your opinions about Ubuntu have a personal or professional basis, but if there is work to be done to improve this situation, its scope is well beyond Ubuntu, and we would do well to avoid finger-pointing and conspiracy theories in favor of considering it in a more general context. I have myself, in Debian capacity, had to chase down developers of Debian derivatives in order to obtain patches from them in any form other than a sprawling diff relative to a much older Debian package. The fact is that Ubuntu has proactively contributed a lot of code back to Debian, much more than most Debian derivatives have. I see no reason why claims that Ubuntu is not doing _enough_, or making it easy _enough_ for Debian to merge its work pales in contrast to the fact that many other organizations have done, and are doing, nothing whatsoever in this regard.
