That would be completely true if "sync" would hold what the name
promises. VFAT does not (completely) implement "sync". Just try it:
copy a big file onto a VFAT stick mounted with "sync" and immediately
remove it. The file will be truncated. Also, if you immediately
execute "sync" after copying something, a big bunch of data will still
be written onto the stick.
