Silence is far more rude than getting an answer which is not as nice as
you'd expect. What would you say when you'd go to a room of people where
you see everyone is helping eachother, but where everyone looks in a
different direction (or at least pretends to do so) when /you/ ask a
question? Not getting any replies to a mail sent in a public mailinglist
is very similar to that.
