I confirm this behavior with fr_FR.UTF-8 locale.

^ is a pretty common character to type in a terminal for anyone who 
manipulates regular expressions...

Some more information:

- I use a plain X session, no desktop environment
- The problem happens with all applications

It seems IBus 1.5.32 brings some changes targeted at Wayland/GTK4 which 
seem to not play well with plain X sessions and/or non-GTK applications 
(see #1098946).
