The former is the case.  The text is there to let people know why their app
which calls cdrecord *may* fail, if it runs into a rough edge where wodim
and cdrecord behavior don't match up well enough.  But in general, this
package is holding up fairly well, to judge by the lack of RC bugs filed
about the switch.

So, I think that removing the text is probably a 'wishlist' request; any
specific functional incompatibilities between the two might be bugs of
higher severity, but this one seems to just be about the text at this point.
