I do appreciate and understand why upstream may choose -Werror for
development
builds. This allows catching issues and errors very early in the
development
cycles.
For production builds that follow compiler upgrades, IME this flag is
not
worth the trouble. That's why I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree
on whether this particular NMU introduced a patch that was appropriate
or not.
But you are right, ultimately this decision is up to the maintainer to
make.
