Ok, that's good enough for me. I'll look into sponsoring this update for you. > BTW, if the Debian maintainer is MIA, why this package is not > orphaned? The maintainer is still active in Debian (in fact, he's CC'd on these emails!) but just hasn't gotten around to orphaning the package. > > By creating these patches, you are making a statement that you believe > > these apps are worth saving. > > How does that follow? An RC bug alone isn't quite enough justification to remove a package and would make some maintainers upset. (It's a nuisance having to get packages through the NEW queue again once they've been removed from Debian.) We can remove packages once there has been sufficient time and notice to the maintainer that the package will be removed unless the maintainer objects (or unless someone like you fixes the bug!). I have started filing bugs like https://bugs.debian.org/910957 and https://bugs.debian.org/893861 to provide that time and notice. (There are some packages where I have contacted the maintainer privately via email to inquire about removing the package but the bug report may be better) I have completed many removals as part of this libgnome cleanup. I would have filed several more intent to remove bugs but I see that you have very recently posted patches for several packages I was looking at. We can NMU those, but let's see if the maintainers respond to your patches first. Thanks, Jeremy Bicha
