root-tail has just been orphaned by the MIA team on behalf of Stephen Gran, see https://bugs.debian.org/838406. I'm preparing a QA upload of root-tail fixing this bug and updating the packaging to the current state of the art. I also created a packaging git repository at https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/root-tail.git/ (will be visibile in about an hour or so) for future root-tail maintenance.
