Thanks for fixing #688201. Unfortunately from a very quick look at
the
diff it includes a change which makes it unsuitable for inclusion in
wheezy (and doesn't appear to be documented in the changelog
afaict):
-Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}, ${gcc}, debconf (>=
1.2.0), emacs23 | emacsen
+Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends}, ${gcc}, debconf (>=
1.2.0), emacs24 | emacsen, ucf
emacs24 is not, and will not be, in wheezy so the above change would
make your package uninstallable there. In fact, it's not even the
default version in unstable, so I'm not really sure what the
rationale
for the change is.

Greetings! This was in line of addressing #682719.
That bug suggests that the acl2 package should Build-Depend on "emacs23
| emacs24". I'm not sure how it's relevant to the change in gcl, other
than it also involves emacs24.
I was under the impression that the emacsen would cover the absence
of emacs24.
Whether it does isn't really the point I was making. :-) The general
form of such dependencies is "default-provider | virtual-package" so for
packages in wheezy the default should still be emacs23.
Isn't wheezy frozen anyway?
Yes, and #688201 is an RC bug which affects wheezy so one would expect
the fix to make its way there.
