This is abnormal, but I'm telling you, there was nothing! Inn didn't start and it didn't get a pid, but no error message was posted from the start script. I no longer have to opportunity to test inn on the same machine, but I have just installed inn on my work desktop, and I get the same problem. # /etc/init.d/inn start Starting news server: innd. # ps aux | grep inn root 19852 0.0 0.0 5260 768 pts/0 S+ 23:26 0:00 grep inn Not running! # /etc/init.d/inn stop Stopping news server:. No message about the inn server isn't running! However, this time I get an error from /var/log/news/news.err "innd: SERVER cant GetConfigValue pathhost Success" I believe that this value should be set as "localhost" by default or the install script must provide the information that this value needs to be set before it can run. The same goes for "domain", otherwise inn will provide the same error. Perhaps the other machine had a problem with the /var/log/news directory.
