"serious" just means that this is a blocker for the next release, and so the version as it is will probably not make it to testing. I can atleast reproduce the hang on my own machine using: export HOME=/non-existing I can run various tests for you if you want. I should have access to all those arches that failed. I don't know exactly what the policy is for giving other people access, but I'm also not sure it's needed at this time.
