As you already noted, that is a different problem. It's not about network-manager taken the interface down, it's because of ifupdown not bringing the device up (most likely due to a buggy driver not generating a uevent). -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
