Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.e-2.3
Seems that vlc can't do some video output anymore. The changelog
doesn't mention anything in this direction, so I would expect
that this is not supposed to happen.
Here is a sample session:
% vlc x.mov
VLC media player 0.8.6e Janus
[00000550] skins2 interface: skin: VLC Media Player author: JoeTheZombie
[00000741] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `avc1'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000546] main playlist: stopping playback
% vlc y.avi
VLC media player 0.8.6e Janus
[00000285] skins2 interface: skin: VLC Media Player author: JoeTheZombie
[00000493] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000279] main playlist: stopping playback
Moving back to version 0.8.6.e-2.2 makes the problem go away.
Regards
Harri

Dato and I were investigating the same bug on #debian-release with very
similar result. The packages in unstable are fine, therefore I'm closing
this bug.
To people who are still experiencing this: Make sure that you DONT have
packages from http://debian-multimedia.org installed, and delete your
vlc plugin cache:
# rm ~/.vlc/cache/plugins-*.dat
then vlc should work again.
