Package: vlc
Version: 0.8.6.e-2.3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello Maintainer,

I noticed that vlc won't play videos which are using codecs like xvid,
divx or wmv since the last upgrade - but w32codecs / libxvid* /
libavcodec* is installed on my system and it's still working with other
players.

I just get for example this:

wmv:
[00000296] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `wma2'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000337] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000338] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
[00000339] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

divx:
[00000296] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `DX50'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

xvid:
[00000296] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Many codecs won't work now with vlc, the only one which still works was
a MPEG sequence, v1, system multiplex.

Dato and I were investigating the same bug on #debian-release with very
similar result. The packages in unstable are fine, therefore I'm closing
this bug.

To people who are still experiencing this: Make sure that you DONT have
packages from http://debian-multimedia.org installed, and delete your
vlc plugin cache:

 # rm ~/.vlc/cache/plugins-*.dat

then vlc should work again.
