please elaborate, why you think that pid files are created in /tmp.

mailscanner-4.39.6/etc$ grep -r /tmp .
./MailScanner.conf:Lockfile Dir = /tmp

please re-read my question. Thanks, Matthias

Sorry, my bug report was not very complete and I was talking about "default configuration" which is misleading since there are problems with the shipped virus scanner scripts as well:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/MailScanner/autoupdate$ grep /tmp *
antivir-autoupdate:$LockFile = "/tmp/AntiVirBusy.lock";
bitdefender-autoupdate:$LockFile = "/tmp/BitDefenderBusy.lock";
clamav-autoupdate:$LogFile = "/tmp/ClamAV.update.log";
[25 lines with similar output omitted]

The location of the pid file of the master mailscanner process used to be defined in MailScanner.conf. Either it has changed during a recent upgrade or it is a mistake on my part. I don't know. Probably the latter case...

Greets,
Wollie
