wondering about: Can't you use LOCAL_CONFIG_FILE (I don't think version
1.9.x already has this) to do/implement what you want or is it too
restricted?

PS: Debian stable freeze is coming up. It would be nice to get this in.
But it would need to happen sometime before April to leave enough
time for testing.
