This looks to be this issue: http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/12388 It was fixed in: http://trac.wxwidgets.org/changeset/69431 But it seems only for wx 2.9, not the 2.8 series, though I don't understand the structure of wxPython's SVN repo - it looks like 3rdparty is separate to the trunk/branches/tags structure for some reason. So maybe this will get fixed in 2.8.13 (which upstream is apparently planning to release). Anyway, I've added the patch from the changeset above to the debian wx packaging git repo, and I'll make an upload in the near future.
