Sure, I'd be happy to comaintain lzma.

Here's a proposed package for xz-utils in experimental:

 git://git.debian.org/collab-maint/xz.git experimental

http://alioth.debian.org/~jrnieder-guest/xz-utils/xz-utils_5.1.1alpha+20110809-3~exp2.dsc

It registers an "lzma" alternative in the xz-utils package with
priority 20 (i.e., below that of lzmp). This way, everyone gets the
lzma commands and those who have the lzma package installed can
continue to use it. The version number is 5.1.1alpha+20110809-3~exp2,
meaning the Conflicts in lzma would have to be updated to match.

The package doesn't include a NEWS.Debian to avoid pestering the admin
when there is nothing for her to do. People who had xz-lzma installed
do not have lzma installed, so /usr/bin/lzma remains a symlink to xz;
people who had lzma installed continue to have /usr/bin/lzma provided
by lzmp. README.Debian gets an update to suggest use of
update-alternatives instead of installation of the xz-lzma package.

In a way, I wish this kept the xz-lzma package, because it would be
convenient to put a NEWS.Debian there (where it would only be shown to
interested people). Maybe we should revive it as a
dummy-except-for-NEWS-file package. :)

Seems to work okay in practice, at least. I hope you enjoy it.

Cheers,
Jonathan
