FYI, if there is no suitable alternative, I can offer to help cleaning
up the currently open bugs against gramofile (they seem reasonably
straightforward to me), and see about porting it to ALSA.

However, since I have nearly no use for it, I wouldn't want to step up
as a maintainer in the long run. But a one-time cleanup & get into shape
sprint I can probably do.

No promises at this time, though. Especially about the ALSA porting, the
rest isn't a big deal, imo.
