doing so now ;)

Sorry. I thought I had answered this before. Yes -- I subscribed piuparts-devel a couple of weeks ago.

From my running piuparts.d.o POV I don't care much why+what has changed in
the base system and if I'd really wanted to find out one day, I could use
snapshots.d.o - but I also don't care about disk space here. What I had in
mind was just not accumulating cruft. OTOH, as its reused every month its
not much cruft... I'll sleep over it and commit something tomorrow :)
I've decided to remove it on success...

Very good. You have both greater experience and greater knowledge (I didn't know snapshots.d.o exists).
Not to mention greater responsibility as official maintainer.

Speaking of changesets, I'd like to move to git rather sooner than later -
are you familar with it?
Yes -- I am familiar with and comfortable with git. I prefer mercurial, but I recognize:

1) that definitely places me in a minority. and
2) that MAY be because I pushed for, and have been using, mercurial at my day job for 3+ years,

IMHO, there are legitimate, well-reasoned proponents on both sides of the 'git vs mercurial' question, in addition to the flamewars that seem to get started on regular basis (still). At least from my perspective, the two seem to have become very close to each other (in a positive way).

More opinion ... With current # of people and level of activity, I wouldn't think svn is any meaningful obstacle, Though this may just be another case of your having greater experience and greater knowledge :-)

for this to happen I should move svn/piatti into trunk first...

cheers,
        Holger
