Updating a library package with an ABI breakage I used dh_makeshlibs to
generate a symbol-diff for me. During that I noticed the follow:

Part of the issue here was caused by me using -tc when building so the package
directory
did not exist. Nevertheless, I do believe dpkg-gensymbols should not trigger
the
"uninitialized value" warnings.
