Thank you for your prompt response. Mmm.. well something is causing a large spike in cpu in my system. Do you know of a way to debug this (like produce verbose output?, I'm going to try installing libwxgtk2.8-0-dbg and see). Could it be the graphics driver...I'm using the open source AMD/ATI radeon driver r300g (it's a bit buggy still...).
