Hello: I made a friend to test this issue. He happens to have sid on an i386 and tortoise hg worked perfectly there since the beginning. Having this into account I'd point to some ABI change in any of the python libraries, likely python-qscintilla2. This library has recently seen a second binNMU 2.4.3-1+b2 on i386(and others), whereas version is still 2.4.3-1+b1 on amd64.
Maybe this is correct, but provided the information I have this is my best
guess.
