The guy who wrote large parts of the git completion did a major update, that didn't make it upstream yet, because sf.net's CVS is still down. If you want to give it a shot, it's at: <https://github.com/now/zsh/blob/git/Completion/Unix/Command/_git> In terms of up-to-dateness, it should be quite a bit better than what's currently shipped with zsh. Unfortunately, it doesn't improve performance. We know fairly well, where the problem is located, but fixing is would be a major undertaking.
