How does gwibber decide what browser to run? FWIW I believe xdg-open
(from the xdg-utils) generally does a good job at the mind-reading
required to make the right choice (first checking $BROWSER, then the
DE's configuration, then the systemwide default x-www-browser).

Ben, what version of Gwibber do you use? If other apps are also not
respecting the GNOME configuration, please feel free to file
additional bugs (for example by cloning this one).

Thanks,
Jonathan
