I have been using this with
pandoc_markdown_ext => "pmdwn"
and it seems fast enough on my oldish server, at least in this mode of
only processing selected pages.
As far as I can tell, using the pandoc plugin is one of few attractive
options for managing tables with multiline cells

The fact that it renders the output from emacs table mode is
particularly nifty.
