My goal with this bug was to keep a record of the differences with respect to upstream with the intent on closing the bug once all of the changes were in fact upstreamed or chosen not to be accepted. I had hoped to hear something back from Derek, but haven't yet. I would prefer to keep this open for a bit longer.
