Hello, I think that I have opened the bug : http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=601889 for the same problem. I also have a 830 card that does not work with kms.
I have tried the debian experimental kernel 2.6.36. With this one, KMS is working (but very instable and quite unusable) with i915 module. This is not the case with the squeeze kernel.
