Hi, As far as I understand the current state of this bug, an upgrade from a lenny system with splashy installed to squeeze will make the system unbootable. This is in my opinion quite a major issue as splashy is often installed on desktop computers whose administartors are quite likely to be casual users - I do know quite a lot people in that case.
Perhaps just conflicting with insserv would help?
