that's seems like a fine solution, and probably better than mine.
this is just what i did to fix it.

i'm not sure that xs-python-version is intended as you think. my
interpretation is that it is intended to automatically generate the python
depends info; i.e. the ${python:Version} variable [0]. i could very well
be reading that wrong though.
