Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.5-2
Severity: important

My mobile broadbands works well with ppp 2.4.4rel-10.1.
After the upgrade to ppp 2.4.5-1 and today's 2.4.5-2 I can't connect
with Network Manager (or anything else?) anymore.
I have to downgrade:
$ sudo dpkg -i /extra/apt-cacher-
ng/debrep/pool/main/p/ppp/ppp_2.4.4rel-10.1_i386.deb
dpkg: warning: downgrading ppp from 2.4.5-2 to 2.4.4rel-10.1.

and reconnect my Huawei E220 dongle. After that it works as before.
(I have edited the Version tag from reportbug above to reflect the
relevant non-working version).

A good sign in syslog with ppp 2.4.4rel-10.1:
pppd[6754]: Plugin /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pppd-plugin.so loaded.

A bad sign in syslog with ppp 2.4.5-2:
pppd[2271]: Plugin /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pppd-plugin.so is for pppd
version 2.4.4, this is 2.4.5

I have also seen this when it didn't work:
pppd[2473]: /usr/lib/pppd/2.4.4/nm-pppd-plugin.so: undefined symbol:
pap_passwd_hook
That must have been with ppp 2.4.5-1.

It seems unrelated to my specific dongle or operator, since it's the
same if I use my mobile phone as a modem and connect to another
operator.

Maybe there should be a dependency between ppp and network-manager so
that ppp cannot be upgraded until network-manager is prepared for it.
Now network- manager only recommends ppp without any specific version.

Here are all relevant syslog lines with ppp 2.4.5-2 when I click on my
connection "Telia Standard 2 E220" in NM. It is set up to not connect
automaticly.
