Maybe I wasn't clear enough then. My point wasn't at all about mass storage (which doesn't really need anything to work) but about gphoto2-supported camera. Those work pretty fine with gthumb 2.10, but stopped working starting 2.11. My guess was that it was because of the migration to gio, but I'm not that sure now.
