Package: gnome-cups-manager Version: 0.30-2 Followup-For: Bug #214056 Does your environment set $PRINTER? I've been poking at the version of gnome-cups-manager currently in unstable for a while today, and noticed that if $PRINTER was set, it would alter ~/.lpoptions, but wouldn't change the default printer marker.
Stupid, but it's Gnome, so what do you expect? Someone made a *deliberate* design decision to do that... to deliberately be stupid and actually change the default, but not to change the marker conditional on the setting of an environment variable. Of course, even though ~/.lpoptions is getting changed, libgnomeprint or some other piece of this disaster is still failing to pick up what the default printer is, despite CUPS itself knowing. Applications are all defaulting to the first printer in the list, no matter what the default is actually set to.
