As I said, the first step would be not choking on the lack of config-file (planned for when I finally upload 2.01-1), but the real fix would involve understanding exactly under which circumstances the file got deleted and try to gracefully handle it. For instance: if it consistently disappears before the tempfile can be renamed, then having the maintainer scripts move the tempfile would probably be a nice enough solution. Unfortunately I can't seem to replicate it over here.
