I agree, despite the fact taht we introduced some upstream-incompatible patches (like the write_bcc one) we should limit this number to as less patches as possible. There was a discussion in the related bug report and it seems that there are valid reasons for both arguments but in terms of ease of maintenance we should follow upstream.
