I'm interested in the changes that you have. I tried to fix the repository at http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/xpdf.git/.git but I see that it has the sticky bit set and I would not be able to move directories there. > i think it would make more sense to apply these changes to poppler first > since it has an active upstream (and since xpdf will be using poppler > going forward). the poppler maintainers sent out an RFH a while back, > so you may want to offer your assistance there. I didn't know about their RFH. I will look into that a little latter. OTOH, it seems that the upstream of poppler are moving at a fast pace and already did some of the changes in poppler itself. I will keep in touch with them. > also, since these changes don't address debian-specific bug > reports/problems, i think it makes more sense to push them upstream > first. Since you are already with your hands dirty in the xpdf code, I think that you may want to see what is going on with xpdf-poppler. I hope that the code can get cleaner. Sure, I don't want all the burden of maintaining this myself, but I do want to be able to see the PDF files that I have. :-) > one of debian's tenants is to avoid upstream divergence unless > absolutely necessary (bug/security fixes). That's one of the guidelines, but it is, by no means, a strict rule to follow. I am following the Social Contract here, especially points #1, #2, and #3. :-) >> This, in particular, involves converting between zoom (sometimes, >> expressed as doubles, sometimes, as strings) levels and the indexes of >> the array of the pulldown menu. > > i also think it would make more sense to push this kind of change into > upstream xpdf first, I have not heard back from Derek in a while. :-( I'm not exactly sure if he is interested. > but i would be willing to consider applying a patch if it is modest. Please, do take a look. I would love to have any good version here working (and, in fact, not having to have this written in the first place). > thanks again for your work. Thanks for your work too.
