aptitude runs the dpkg::pre-invoke and dpkg::post-invoke hooks even when run in --download-only mode. apt-get does not. I think that is a bug in aptitude. etckeeper has not way to tell that aptitude is run in --download-only mode. However, the only reason etckeeper is aborting the "install" is because you have this set, which is not the default: > AVOID_COMMIT_BEFORE_INSTALL=1 I will reassign this bug to aptitude. -- see shy jo
