Sure. What happened is that I later recompiled 1.5.20 myself, as the
References: field had the same problem but I couldn't solve it in the
same way. So I got to the ftp archives and recompiled the latest I got.

Yes, it makes sense for me. Actually, I don't personally need the fix:
I sent the trivial patch to possibly help other users. I now see I
should have checked the latest version used by Debian before posting,
to avoid extra work on your side.
