thanks for your effort, it is much appreciated! My concern is that the NMU fixes too much things which are out of scope (assuming the scope was fixing the RC bug). Regarding the fix I'm not convinced attaching the config.h.in and configure diff is a good idea, running autoheader/autoconf at build time sounds better to me.
