Yeah, except that would be for a specific case, instead of a generic way. AC/BAT is a good example, but having DPMS profiles related to other stuff (a more generic power policy) would be better. And there are already software which do that, while xscreensaver doesn't (and I'm not sure it's intended to become a generic power policy daemon).
