Apologies for the delay; Debconf kind-of interrupted me. I've worked on this locally and I can (sometimes) trigger the bug you describe. After applying a patch (http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-cvs/2004-12/msg00086.html) it _seems_ to have gone away for me. Can you please try the test binary package from http://www.einval.com/cvs/cvs_1.12.9-14_sarge_unofficial_i386.deb for me and let me know if the problem is fixed for you too?
