reopen 535512 thanks aptitude needs to be modified to support /etc/apt/preferences.d, too. It currently calls ReadPinFile and not ReadPinDir.
Actually, I realized after marking this as affecting aptitude that this will probably also affect all the APT frontends and bindings in existence. (http://google.com/codesearch?q=ReadPinFile and some hand searching finds adept, aptitude, debtags, gnome-apt, libept, packagekit, python-apt, synaptic, update-manager, update-notifier, plus miscellaneous packages that aren’t currently in Debian.) Perhaps we should think of a way to make this change without requiring everyone to start using a new libapt API?
