Yes would be nice! I'm currently redoing git-import-orig to use
fastimport more often, once that is there it should be even easier. I'm
just lacking a bit of free time atm...

Yes please do. We can even add a patch to the gbp documentation if that
helps in the interim. A patch against the docbook source would be
welcome.
