As oultined in the following thread on the Debian-KDE list: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2009/10/msg00067.html I have also been unable to activate the Search Bar extension. I recently updated my system from KDE 3.5.9 to the lastest Sid packages and am using the Kaboom migrated settings.
