I didn't write the patch--merely pulled it from Arch Linux, but I'll
see if I can get my hands on a virtual machine to replicate the
issue and hopefully figure out a fix. I am Cc'ing the original patch
author, in case he happens to have any input. Judging from his
Google Code SVN repository, it looks like the last time this patch
saw any work was July of 2007 (which was nearly a year before
Microsoft released even a beta test version of IE8):
