Fortunately Don't do it then. Admittedly, this option of the init script is not very useful and should not be used. I can't see how this could be worked around either, because synthesizing hotplug events could have collateral effects. I welcome use cases for it and/or requests to phase it out. I am also not inclined in devising complex solutions because this init script will be replaced by native upstart directives after squeeze is released.
