I'm not sure if this is the same problem as the OP, but the symptoms
are pretty much identical. I had no problems with 'xfmedia' at all
-- using it very frequently -- until I installed the most recent
updates a few minutes ago.
Clicking on my launcher causes 'xfmedia' to open its window, but close
immediately. No error messages appear in ~/.xsession-errors. Opening
an X terminal and running 'xfmedia' causes the same behavior, but
prints
Segmentation fault
as its only output.
The following type of messages appear in 'dmesg' output, however:

It's very strange that a working version would be OK, then suddenly
start segfaulting! I had just updated Sid before noticing that
'xfmedia' would not run any more:

I don't see anything there that 'xfmedia' directly depends on, so
maybe the segfaults have nothing to do with this set of updates. I
thought I should mention it, though, in case someone sees something
significant in that list of updated packages. The only packages in
that list that conceivably could affect 'xfmedia' are the two udev
packages, but no other sound-using software as been affected on my
system. (And the segfault error message in 'dmesg' seems to indicate
a problem with pthreads, not ALSA.)
Totally baffling.
