I see your point.  Substituting something that is "not as bad"
for something that is "bad" really isn't a fix.

As for my configuration, if you are volunteering to look at it,
I'll be glad to send it to you.  I'm using a Dell Dimension 4400
computer, with a video card which uses the Nvidia GeForce2
MX / MX 400 chipset.  The chipset specified in svgatextmode is
RIVA128.  The X server uses the nv driver.

The program works perfectly as long as the font height exactly
matches the character cell height.  But when they differ by 1
pixel, either way, I either get fewer than the correct number of
lines, with the shell prompt below the bottom of the physical
screen (as configured by default) or with extra garbage lines
at the bottom (as configured in my bug report).
