Bump or Ditto to this bug. Thanks Micah Cowan, for the 9/4/9 BTS message explaining the change and its compromises.
I too miss the old man page format, which had gaps, but at least things were easier to find. On the other hand, it is good to have the 'info' page available, assuming it wasn't before (in Debian). Granted maintaining two sets of docs is crazy. Presumably the solution is to abstract what is common between these (and perhaps other) formats, make a standardized format of that abstraction, and have programs create man pages and info pages from that single standardized source of data, with room for incompatible format specific additions left over. Maybe there are extant formats that would fill the bill. In the meantime, can we Luddites have our crufty old man page back, in some explicitly unmaintained form or another? Maybe an obvious link to it from the current 'info' based page, or vice versa. Grouchy PS: a pox against GNU copy like "This file documents the GNU Wget utility for downloading network data." Does anybody who types 'man wget' not expect that "this file documents..."? Even "this file" annoys the user; which _other_ file would a user be reading, if not "this" one? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
