This issue is discussed in sshfs' FAQ:

http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/fuse/index.php?title=SshfsFaq#Why_does_SVN_.28etc....29_fail_to_rename_files.3F

Newer versions of libgsf (such as those in squeeze and sid) contain a patch,

http://git.gnome.org/cgit/libgsf/commit/?id=a724513015fbf3f9aa54558ddd1f5d5fc3da209f
which works around this sshfs behaviour.

As noted in
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/pkgs.html#upload-stable ,
there are strict criteria for changes to the stable distribution. As this
issue only affect sshfs users and as it can be worked around on the sshfs
side, I do not consider these criteria to be met, so this issue will not be
fixed in 5.0 (lenny). Instead, it will be fixed in the next Debian release
(squeeze) through the fix already present in the current "testing" tree.

HTH,
Ray
